Mohammad Tariq (also known as Tariq Faraz), is an accomplished academician specialising in English literature, hermeneutics, and philosophy of language. He is currently Assistant Professor of English at J. S. Hindu P. G. College Amroha-244221 (MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly). He is at present Academic Counsellor (English) at JSHPGC, Branch, Amroha. Almost for a decade (2012-2020), he boasts an illustrious academic career spanning over a decade as Assistant Professor of English in the Department of Languages, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Integral University, Lucknow. He has also worked at Lucknow Christian Degree College as a lecturer in English. He is Editor-in-Chief of The SPL Journal of Literary Hermeneutics: A Biannual International Journal of Independent Critical Thinking (www.literaryherm.org), a lifelong member of Re-Markings: A Biannual Refereed International Journal of English Letters, and a member of the Editorial Review Board of the International Journal of English and Comparative Literary Studies. Published by Baynoon Centre for Studies and Development (BCSD), Oman, Jordan. He was awarded the “Khwaja Ahmad Abbas Award” for short story writing presented by the Tasmia Educational Society and Indian Cultural Society at an Award Function: Tasmia Auditorium Okhla New Delhi on April 3, 2021. “State Award (UP)” given by the Government of Uttar Pradesh on Teachers Day (September 5, 2021) for making a significant contribution to the National Education Policy-2020 in the Higher Education conducted by MJPR University facilitated by the Vice-Chancellor at J. S. Hindu PG College, Amroha-244221.

Tariq was born in Barabanki and brought up in Lucknow. A mufassil boy who had a bunch of uncertain dreams and a blurred vision of life with an unending learning attitude. He was primarily educated at Lucknow University and studied English language and literature, Urdu humanities, and modern Indian history. Tariq qualified for UGC-NET and wrote his doctoral dissertation on Paul Ricoeur’s Hermeneutics of Suspicion in English, and he was awarded the degree of Ph.D. in English by Lucknow University. The subject of his doctoral thesis was “Metaphor, Time, and Narrative: Paul Ricoeur’s Philosophy of Language and Literary Hermeneutics.” It was a philosophical inquiry about the nature of language and the development of religious hermeneutics in literary studies. It showed the way a purely religious discipline legitimately came to be associated with literary hermeneutics. The thesis was broadly orientated towards Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics of suspicion. He teaches English, language, literature, criticism, and contemporary literary theories. His area of specialisation lies in Indian Writing in English, Gender Studies, Diaspora Studies, Literary Theory and Criticism, Contemporary Literary Theories, and Philosophy of Language. Tariq has garnered recognition as a distinguished author, having contributed significantly to the literary landscape. Among his notable publications are:

Dr. Mohammad Tariq is a dedicated academic whose lectures span a wide range of topics essential to higher education and English studies. He has delivered insightful presentations on English Language and Communication Skills, Reading Comprehension and Writing Skills, and Effective Professional Communication, aiming to equip students and professionals with fundamental skills vital for success within academia and in broader professional contexts. His expertise extends into critical ethical issues within research and publication, including research ethics, scientific conduct, publication ethics, and authorship protocols. . Through these sessions, he emphasises the ethical responsibilities scholars bear in contributing to knowledge with integrity and fostering an environment of academic collaboration. In addition, Dr. Tariq addresses sociocultural topics such as minority discourse, women’s emancipation in India, and gender equity and sustainable development, highlighting the pivotal role of academic discourse in promoting inclusivity and social advancement. His work also includes lectures on Artificial Intelligence in Research, where he bridges technological developments with ethical considerations to guide future scholars in the responsible use of AI tools. Through these diverse topics, Dr. Tariq contributes to a comprehensive understanding of English studies and higher education, blending communication skills, ethical standards, cultural perspectives, and innovation.

 

A significant feature of his personality is his deep interest in academic leadership, the future of academic institutions, and the fresh avenues, both in creative writing and critical thinking, i.e., modern English and Urdu poetry. Tariq writes in both the languages, Urdu and English. His area of specialisation is in the philosophy of language, existentialism, and literary hermeneutics. Tariq is an inquisitive and avid reader. His main aim is to help people discover new meaning in their lives and work, and at a systems level, connect to the deeper meaning in organisations, communities, and societies for the larger scheme of things for positive change. As a dedicated educator and mentor, he has inspired countless students and professionals to pursue their passions and achieve their full potential.
